Each line here is a line on the label. Click a column name to insert it, or type any text you want printed. A line whose columns are all empty for a row is left out, so the rest close up.

Check the fit before you print on labels. Print the blank template on plain paper, hold it against a sheet of Avery 5395 up to the light, and check the boxes land on the cuts. Worth doing with any template on any printer: paper size, driver margins and scaling all shift a sheet. It matters more here: these measurements come from an open label-template database and are checked arithmetically on every build, and the same database reproduces this site’s paper-verified Avery 5160 layout exactly, but Avery 5395 itself has not yet been measured against real stock.

What is Avery 5395?

Avery 5395 is a US Letter sheet of eight adhesive name badges, each 2-1/3 inches tall and 3-3/8 inches wide, in two columns of four. Unlike most address sheets, the rows do not touch: there is a sixth of an inch between them and three-eighths of an inch between the columns, inside side margins of eleven-sixteenths of an inch.

Several Avery badge products share this layout. Avery's help article on its 2-1/3 x 3-3/8 inch badges lists 5395, 8395, 15395, 25395, 42395, 45395, 85395, 88395 and 92106 as one template, the numbers differing by pack size or printer compatibility. The same article notes that badges with colored borders use a slightly different template.

How do I print name badges from a guest list on Avery 5395?

To print Avery 5395 badges from a guest list, add the list in the tool on this page and put the name on the first line of the layout, for example {First name} {Last name}, with {Company} on the line below. The first line prints bold by default, and a line whose column is empty for a guest is left out, so a badge without a company simply shows the name.

Set the alignment to Center, then open More options to give each line its own size, such as 24 point for the name and 14 for the company. The name tag version of the tool starts with badges already set up that way, name large and bold.

How large can the name be on an Avery 5395 badge?

On an Avery 5395 badge, width runs out long before height does. Inside the padding each badge is about 3.2 inches wide, and a first and last name such as Dana Whitfield takes about 2.3 inches at 24 point bold. At 36 point, the largest size offered, the same name is too wide and is shrunk to fit, so 36 point suits a first name on its own.

Height is generous by comparison. Two and a third inches is 168 points, enough for all eight lines the layout allows at 14 point, which leaves room for a job title, a table number or a session under the name without crowding it.

Is Avery 5395 the same as 5390 or 5392?

No: Avery 5390 and 5392 are cut to different sizes, so a PDF made for 5395 will not line up on either. 5392 is a larger three-by-four-inch badge, six to a sheet, and 5390 is a name tag insert; both are in the tool's list of sheets, along with the A4 L7418 at 86 by 55 millimeters.

Whichever badge you use, print the blank template on plain paper and hold it against a sheet of badges before printing names. None of these badge layouts has been measured against real stock yet, and a sheet of plain paper is cheaper than a sheet of badges.
